Getting to know the life, values and works of Dr. Jose Rizal

Today another historical event will be celebrated by the Filipinos, the commemoration of the life and works of the country's national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal.

But what are the reasons behind today's celebration? Why do Filipinos need to celebrate this event?

Dr. Jose Rizal's life and values

Unknown to many, Dr. Jose Rizal was a multi-talented person. At a very young age of 35, he was already articulate in so many subjects: be in literary, music, language, medicine and romance.

He was also a leading figure in the Filipinos' against the colonizers using just pen and paper and his literary skills.

Aside from his humane values of compassion, bravery, kindness, and generosity which he manifested during his exile in Dapitan,  Dr. Jose Rizal was also a medical doctor.

Below are some of the qualities of Dr. Jose Rizal:

Linguist/polyglot.

The country's national hero could speak not two, three but 22 different languages, an extra-ordinary talent possessed only by a few.

He was able to acquire these different languages during his stay in different countries he had been to.

Had it not for his being linguist, Jose Rizal could not have romantic relationships with women of different nationalities because of communication gap.

Novelist.

Rizal was also a novelist. In fact, his two novels, the Noli Me Tangere and the El Filibusterismo written in Spanish language were directed at the colonizers.

Poet.

Dr. Jose Rizal was also a good poet. Some of his poems are dedicated to his beloved country and countrymen.

Romantic

No doubt, Jose Rizal was a romantic person. According to historical accounts, he was romantically engaged to eight beautiful women, but some historians claim it could be more than eight women.

These women were of different nationalities, two of them are of serious relationships.

Sense of humor

Only a few people know that Dr. Jose Rizal also possesses another distinct quality that endeared him to the Filipinos, particularly to the women, his sense of humor.

His charm

His kindness, sense of humor and charm are the potent tools possessed by Rizal that made women fall for him.

As we commemorate his life and works today, it's but fitting that ,we,Filipinos, particularly the youth express our gratitude and appreciation for his deeds and values that are worth emulating.

Sadly, today's generation of youth are indifference to the deeds of the country's national hero in contrast to what he had hope for.
